Gieske Got Mad Math Game

Hardy Gieske joins Western Reserve Academy as Chair of the Mathematics Department and as a teacher of the 21, 33 and 51 levels of math. Gieske, who is originally from Maryland, had previously worked at Lawrenceville School in New Jersey. In addition to his work in the classroom, Gieske will coach both soccer and tennis. Also joining the WRA community are his wife Vanessa, who works in the Admissions Office, and their two daughters, Louella age 6 and Juniper age 3.

Gieske says he is excited “to think more broadly about math education at a place that’s really doing that.” He added that WRA has given him a platform to “rethink, reimagine, and breathe new life into math,” and that the current transitional year WRA is going through has allowed him a chance “to get to what is possible, and not just what is probable.” He hopes this “recent re-existence” will help to “push us as a community forward,” and allow him to “tune into the hopes and fears of the students,” thereby advancing the future success of the math curriculum at WRA.

Outside of the classroom, Gieske enjoys road biking, attending the many events in Hudson, and exploring the Hudson Library with his family. He is excited to “settle down” in Hudson. Gieske plans to spend more time outside with his children, hoping to hike and ski with them as well. We welcome Mr. Gieske and look forward to his additions to the WRA community!
